Day 4

1.45pm We gridded and waited for the temperature to rise. We had local glider CC airborne and he acted as a sniffer, he was only able to climb to 2000' at the airfield. We waited but unfortunately the temperature did not rise as we had hoped by launch time.
We cancelled the unballasted class and launched Mak and Graham as sniffers. We towed them to 3000'+ towards the remote start at Freeling - 20km from the airfield. Mak didn't find any lift and came home empty. Graham flew 20km further North (he has an engine) and found a climb to 6000'.
We decided it would not be fair to launch the rest of the gliders as Graham reported conditions were deteriorating in the release area. Reluctantly we cancelled the day.
We have 3 days so it is a valid competition.

10.30am Briefing is over and we are hoping to fly a task today. We need 33C but the wind is already from the SW so we are watching the wind and temperature closely. We are using more Northerly start points with the option of towing a little higher if we need to. Fingers crossed.
The Open Class have 330km Sports 209km.
First launch 12.15pm.

Day 3

5.50pm All accounted for  with HDY, IID VAW GXB in paddocks. Most are only 20km away near Freeling but XB is a little further away as he started later.

5pm First finishers back,WQC, TF, IJA, LG, JN,WVX.
VAW has outlanded 20km away, Cathy is on her way home with Michael

3.50pm There are some scattered high Cus to the North in the task area. Pete's Spot shows he has turned Terowie and is heading South, about 150km to run.

2.50pm The guys who landed back report climbs to 4500' :-(
Hopefully it is better than that up North or we could have a late night.....

2.10pm IZE and ZDG have just landed back having abandoned the task.

1.30pm We just launched the fleet into a blue sky with climbs to 9500' forecast and a few Cus to the North.
XB landed back for a relight but has now started.
It is 32C and forecast to get a little warmer.
Unballasted have a 3 hour 30 minute AAT to the North and Ballasted have a Racing Task of 367 km.
Graham was working again this morning but managed to grid before we had finished launching.
We expect the first ones back around 4.30pm

Day 2 Take 2

5.30pm Everyone is home the scores are up. We had a few airspace issues and a low finisher so the scores are mixed.

2.45pm Currently 31C (the forecast maximum) which should give climbs to 7000'. We have blue conditions and a North Easterly wind.

2.20pm Graham has just launched.

2pm We have launched the fleet minus Graham Parker who has been delayed at work but is still planning to fly.
The DG 1000 landed back and did not relight. Michael Scutter has outlanded safely at Riverton.

10.00 am We have set a 3 hour AAT for Sports class and a 314km Racing task for Open Class. North first and then East and back home.
Today we have 16 gliders flying. Forecast is for 4500' locally rising to 6500' further North.

Day 2?

Noon. Day cancelled, the temperature is falling. The maximum forecast temperature has been reduced by 2 degrees :-(  If we reach that temperature we would get 3000'. So we reluctantly decided to cancel the day.

9am. Unfortunately we now have an approaching trough so we are hoping for a small window later today.
We are re-briefing at noon.

Day 1

5pm Gary home Mac down at Stonefield 50% home. Scores will be late tonight due to all of the outlandings. Pete was to help with the task scoring.

4.35 Alex home now and Simon. Still Gary and Mac out there somewhere.

4.20pm A flurry of phone calls the DG 505 with Brenton and Tony is down also Peter Temple :-(
IID too now.

3.15pm first finishers are calling 20km. Michael Scutter in IZE has outlanded near Truro.

1.45pm first outlanding Tom Leech and David Lawley in DG1000 ZDG

They have all gone into a nice looking sky with Cus. We managed to get them all away before the Maritime replacement air came in.
After the briefing today someone came up to Pete and told him they were concerned about something, it sounded like CBs. Afterwards I checked with Pete they were concerned about the Sea Breeze :-)

10.30am
We have set a 2.30hr AAT for both classes with 1st launch at noon.
A triangle to the North and then East for both.
Cloud base is predicted to be 4500 rising to 6500 in the task area.
During Briefing Gary asked several questions which were all answered, and then the comment "It's in the rules".
Someone said "You signed a form at registration to say you had read the rules"
Peter Temple quipped "He probably didn't read that either" which caused much hilarity.

Unfortunately it is still raining..... Tomorrow should be much better..

Scoring - Trace Upload

To get a score, you must submit your trace to the scoring submission form.

Here are the steps you need to follow:

1. Click the link to go to the scoring submission form.
2. Enter your Competition ID. If you do not know this, it can be found on the pilots list published on the scoreboard in the briefing room.
3. Select the correct date for your flight from the drop down list.
4. Select the IGC file for your flight from your computer.
5. Click "Upload".

A green box should appear saying that your file is uploaded successfully.
If you upload the incorrect file or select an incorrect date you may re-upload your file. In this case you will get a warning message saying that the old file has been replaced.

Once your file is uploaded, your preliminary score should appear on the SoaringSpot results page within 10 minutes. Please check your flight time and distance to ensure that you have uploaded the correct file.

Please contact the Competition Director or the Scorer if you have any problems with this process.

The first briefing is over - all went smoothly, but unfortunately steady rain is falling.

Registration and Weighing

Pilots who have entered will have already filled out an Entry Form for the competition and before you fly you also need to complete and sign a Registration Form, confirming that you have suitable insurance etc.

This form is available available on the Documents tab.

If you can bring this with you to registration it will speed up the process for all concerned.

Julie-Anne Johann will be taking registrations from 8.30am in the pilot briefing room.

You must be registered on Saturday before you fly.

Weighing will be done in the main club hangar.

Andrew Wright and Bill Verco have kindly volunteered to weigh the gliders and they will also be starting at 8.30am.

We will preferentially weigh ballasted gliders before flying for obvious reasons. There may be some time after briefing to weigh the unballasted gliders.
First briefing is at 10am on Saturday.

Airspace, Start and Finish co-ordinates

Competition Airspace Start Point and Finish ring co-ordinates are now available. There is a link on the Documents page.
The airspace changed on 17th November and it is worth taking a look at the new maps to gain an understanding of the changes. We have asked for a Tarlee 9000' release during the competition, and the published airspace reflects this. If there are any changes it will be fully briefed on the day.
